Richard "Rick" Hidlay

I have many memories of uncle Rick, and pictures of times he shared with our family.  He was a loving and devoted family man, and most of all such a good dad to his children, and granddad to his grandchildren.
I'm so sad that I didn't spend more time with him, but my memories of all our families together will be forever in my heart. I can still hear all the laughter at holiday gatherings at my grandpa and grandma Rodgers house, and all of the cousins playing outside listening. Many, many memories that I miss so much.
He now is with all our dads, moms, and grandparents in Heaven still watching over his family! Give everyone a hug for me Uncle Rick.

Marge was a blessing in so many ways and I was fortunate to get to be her neighbor.  She was quite the card shark and I only beat her one time playing Kings in the Corner.  I loved listening to her sharing her memories of meeting numerous Country Stars and I thoroughly enjoyed singing along with her to Gospel Music.  Her smile, warmth and her love of others will never be forgotten.  Rest in Gods arms, my precious Marge.

Bob was such a great guy with a very big heart and a love for the Town of Kersey.  I worked with him as an elected official and just about a month ago he told me I was the first to "fire" him from a job, his position on the Planning Commission.  He did so many things for the town, the flags, the Christmas lights, the park benches, and so much more.  He always came to meetings with ideas from his travels around the state.
Bob I will miss you and your humor, always joking and laughing.  Rest in Peace.

Rest in peace my beloved dear cousin.  Our child hood together in Brooklyn gave us a bond. Our families would constantly visit each other. We went to the same school ( St Peter and Paul), played in the same school yard , explored the same streets and on every opportunity played handball.  I will always cherish the memories. You will be deeply missed, but your memory will live on in our hearts forever.

My Dad worked with Joe at the Post Office for many years and he was always such a good friend We knew him when we were little and he was always so nice. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. He will truly be missed.

Still trying to process this, as I'm sure all of us are . . . but I do love the flood of memories that come with the processing.  Oh my dear cousin, I don't have very many memories with you that don't end with us getting in trouble.  I've laughed a lot thinking about you and all of our times together.  There was a long period of time that we were more like siblings than cousins.  During that time, we had some bad ideas (like swimming in the fountain in Old Town Scottsdale), frequent fights (like was who was going to be lead singer of our lip syncing band), and encouragements of bad behavior (like getting Nathan to say bad words).  We pushed the limits of fun and I'm forever grateful for the lessons we learned as kids together.  I love you, Mashoe!

Matt, your light will forever shine.  May you find peace in the heavens.  Look down upon us all and share your wisdom.  We will forever live our lives passionately as you did.  May you rest easy,  Miss you so deeply.  I love you!!

    A memory to share when Matthew and our daughter Kelly were two years old.  We lived on 15th Ave. and I had given them a popsicle and like usual I had my camera.  As they  sat there I told them to look at me but instead they looked at each other and kissed.  I was so lucky to get that picture.  We have it in a frame with other family pictures.  We hope this will bring a smile to your faces if only for a moment.  God bless you and your family.

Stories about getting caught ditching to leave early for a concert with Ferman, memories of your stories from Seattle you’d tell me when you called, good times and bad times in our lives.

Dr. Charles (Chuck) A. Stamps
September 18, 1929 –May 2, 2024
Chuck Stamps was born in Childress, Texas to Roy and Alma Meyer Stamps. As the oldest boy among nine siblings, and growing up on a farm, he was the first to rise for chores, often missing school to work in the fields. With an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, young Chuck would study by the dim glow of an oil lamp into the early hours of the morning. At the age of 14, he set off on his own path, leaving home and working his way through high school and then serving in the U.S. Navy (1948-1954) intercepting and deciphering Russian code during the Korean War. His love of learning became a lifelong pursuit as he attained his BA, MBA, and PhD degrees in Colorado and pursued a career as a teacher, educator, and administrator.

Chuck was recognized by others as a passionate, respected, and dearly loved educator. He started his career as a high school teacher, soon pivoting to higher education. His professional contributions ranged from research and grant writing as the High School Curriculum Specialist and Business and Education Coordinator for the State Department of Education in Nevada to serving as Associate Dean in the School of Education at Oregon State University to holding three deanships in the State of Colorado. After 40 years, he moved his proverbial tassel from one side of his mortarboard to the other, retiring from a position as Assistant to the President at Pueblo Community College.

Over the course of his life, Chuck received several accolades and awards. He was especially proud of his service in the U.S. Navy, including being one of two candidates out of 100 to be chosen for Selective Service. His awards as an educator included a national award for his doctoral dissertation, one national and one university award for effective teaching, and being selected twice as the Outstanding Administrator at the university level.

His most cherished role, however, was that of a father and grandfather. In 1958, he married one of the student teachers, Margaret McDonnell Stamps Beilke, and for 25 years, they raised a loving family with three children: Eileen, Glenn Nolan, and Corinne. His family eventually grew with the addition of spouses, partners, and grandchildren. They were truly the center of his world.

Chuck was an inspiration to his children and grandchildren, his students, his colleagues, and his friends. He truly understood the value of hard work, perseverance, and education, but more importantly, he understood and embodied compassion, kindness, and community. He set high standards for himself and others because he believed we are all capable of great things. He had a heart the size of a washtub (as he described that of his sister’s) and regularly put others' needs before his, leading with grace and love.

Chuck will be dearly missed by many including his two daughters, Eileen (Rick) Schmidt and Corinne (Corey) Stafford; his son, Glenn Nolan Stamps; and his five grandchildren: Kristin, Anna, and Kara Schmidt (deceased), and Brody and Olivia (Liv) Stafford.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 3rd at 2 p.m. PST at Cedar Hills United Church of Christ in Portland (11695 SW Park Way.) It will also be lived streamed at Cedar Hills United Church of Christ YouTube channel. His ashes will be interred at Crescent Grove Cemetery in Tigard.  Donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
