Adeline K. Raila

Adeline K. Raila, 85, of Midline Road, passed away Tuesday at her home. Born in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of the late Peter J. and Frances U. Luzinas Kadgis. She received her Bachelor and Master?s degrees from the State University of New York at Albany. She was employed as an English teacher at the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Adeline served as president for a time of the Retired Teacher?s Association and later as a secretary for eight years of the Eastern Zone Retired Teachers. She was also a member of the Club 60 and Sterling Care, the AARP, and Council 100 of the Knights of Lithuania, and the Benedictine Oblates. A lifelong communicant of St. Casimir?s Roman Catholic Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Living Rosary Society. She also had the honor of serving as the parish?s first woman trustee. Her husband, Steve J. Raila predeceased her on August 3, 1989. Also her two sisters, Helen Kadgis and Anna Kabasin predeceased her. She is survived by her son, Fr. Donald S. Raila O.S.B. of St. Vincent?s Arch abbey in Latrobe, PA; her daughter, Susan Raila of Upper Montclair, NJ; two grandchildren, Evan and Daryn Carp; a nephew, Daniel Kabasin as well as cousins. A prayer service will take place on Friday at 10:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue followed by a Con-celebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Casimir?s Church. Her son, Fr. Donald Raila O.S.B., will be the principal celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Casimir?s Cemetery. It was Mrs. Raila?s request that there be no calling hours. Contributions may be made to St. Casimir?s Memorial Fund, 260 East Main Street.
