Ajab Singh Bains

November 30th, 1950 - August 15th, 2024

Ajab Singh Bains aka "Jabby Bains" was born in Yuba City, CA, on November 30, 1950, to his proud and loving parents Bakhtawar and Gian Kaur Bains. He was the eldest of five children and was part of the first generation of Punjabi Americans born in Yuba City, CA. He passed away on August 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

In 1955 his parents purchased their first orchard known as "14 acres". When Jabby was a little boy he had many responsibilites. These included learning and translating english for his parents, going to the bank, paying bills, and working side by side with his mom and dad.

Jabby's parents realized when he was just a youngster that he was a farmer at heart. There are stories of him driving/discing with the Caterpillar tractor at the age of five years old. Through these experiences he gained the love and confidence of becoming a farmer which would shape the rest of his life.

Farming was an art for him, which he never turned his back on. Farming was his first love. Early on he was determined and dreamed to expand the family farm into a much larger family farming enterprise for all to be a part of.

At "14 acres" they enjoyed swimming and playing hide and seek with their friends and family. The pool is still standing today. He had many fond memories of his family and the other old time families getting together even after long hard days of working in the fields, as his mom was a wonderful host and cook.

Through this hard work, his will power, his perseverance and immense determination he continued to follow his dreams of becoming a successful farmer. The dedication to the farms took a lifetime of commitment. He was the driving force for our family to take the farming business to new heights.

Jabby had many lifelong friends from attending Franklin Elementary School, Sutter Union High School, and Yuba College. He was a proud Sutter High School student body officer and Sutter High School FFA officer. He was a member and director for the Peach Association for many years, and a member of the Tierra Buena Sikh Temple.

He married his loving wife, Lata in 1975, and had two dedicated sons Gene and Lucky who have continued to grow the family business. He taught them many aspects of farming, guided them during the highs and lows and gave his knowledge and experience where ever needed. He was immensely proud of his sons for continuing the family business.

Jabby was blessed with his devoted wife, of 48 years, Lata, son Gene (Neetu), son Lucky (Geenu), four beautiful, energetic, and loving grandchildren, Isla, Bella, Gia and Dylan. With his grandkids he was finally able to be a carefree kid he had hidden away all these years.

He loved playing and being silly with his grandkids, teaching and telling them about his life experiences, wanting to know about their hopes and dreams too. He wanted them around all the time. He will be missed by his loving sister, Chinty and many family members and friends.

In his life there was never anything more challenging than the lung disease he had experienced the last four years. He was determined and resillient to not let this illness keep him down. He fought hard against this illness, but ultimately his body gave up, but not his spirt.

His family would like to thank Dr. Paul Bains, Dr Inderjit Brar, Dr. Narinder Basra and the many caring and thoughtful nurses and caregivers.

Jabby loved life with a passion and all that it had offered. He is not suffering now, and that's what's most important. His memories will be forever remembered. May he rest in eternal peace.
