Alan Werner Kehrli
October 11th, 1929 - December 31st, 2021
Alan Werner Kehrli died December 31, 2021 at the age of 92 due to age-related causes. Family surrounded him with love in his final days. Alan lived a grand and long life. New Year's Eve was a perfect time for the end of his life because of his love for people and celebration. Alan was born and lived most of his life in Portland, Oregon. He attended Kennedy Grade School and Jefferson High School. After graduation he enlisted in the Navy and served as a Weather Observer on the USS Bonhomme Richard. During a short furlough, he married his high school sweetheart Janet Anne Gross. After his service was completed, Alan made good use of the GI Bill to attend Portland State University and to graduate from the University of Oregon. He became a life-long fan of the Ducks and passed on this love to his children and grandchildren. Alan's career was spent in government service starting with the Bureau of Public Roads and then the Bonneville Power Administration. After retirement he and Jan followed the sun to Arizona every winter. Alan's greatest love was spending time with friends and family. Many activities kept him happy: bowling, golfing, water skiing, camping, playing cards, parties of all kinds -he was the go-to guy who always had the next adventure planned. He made a big entrance on every occasion with his good looks, charm, humor, and love of life. Alan not only loved his family and enjoyed their activities, he had a fierce pride in all of their accomplishments. He and Jan attended swim meets, soccer games, basketball games, track meets, volleyball matches, football games, golf matches, recitals, plays, spelling bees in Oregon, California, Arizona, and as far away as Texas, Louisiana, Colorado, Missouri and Sydney, Australia. Alan was predeceased in death by his wife Janet Gross Kehrli and his son Martin Alan Kehrli. he is survived by his daughters Deborah Anne Kehrli Wilson, Pamela Anne Ankrim and their husbands John Bruce Wilson and Ernest Marshall Ankrim. Other survivors include Shawnmarie Davis and a large, loving bunch of grandchildren and great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held for Alan on Sunday January 16th 1:00 at Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes in Happy Valley, OR. The family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Jim King, Marie Rankin, Sunnyside Meadows, and Providence Hospice Services for their kindnesses and care.
