Alan Eugene Meining

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the First Christian Church in Wheatland with Pastor Randy Gregory officiating. Alan died Thursday, March 6, after a long battle with diabetes and MS. Alan, the son of Wilfred and Lois (McCartney) Meining was born April 22, 1949 in Longmont, CO. He was raised in Berthoud, Colorado where he ran track, played football and basketball. After graduation he attended CU in Boulder, CO, CSU in Ft. Collins, CO and Northeastern Jr. College in Sterling, CO. It was then that he was diagnosed with diabetes. In September 1971, he married Joyce Kemmer and in September of 1972 they moved to Wheatland to ranch with his parents. A son, Nathan, was born in 1975 and they were later divorced. In addition to ranch work he drove cattle and mail truck for Sam Huckfeldt. In 2000 he was diagnosed with MS and had been a resident of Platte County Memorial Nursing Home, Springcreek Healthcare in Ft. Collins, CO and Solterra Nursing Home in Castle Rock, CO at the time of his death. He is survived by his son Nathan, parents Wilfred and Lois Meining, sisters Marsha (Daryl) Tiltrum, Peggy Meining, Charla (Randy) Gregory, Nancy (Russell) Schoonover, and numerous nieces and nephews. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Joe Archie, Mike Atencio, Steve Mathews, and Gary Burkholder.
