Albert Cooley
January 11th, 1938 - June 6th, 2009
Al passed away at home at the age of 71. He was born in Lincoln Park, Michigan to Lucille Colvin and Albert Weldon Cooley, Sr. When Al was eight years old, his family moved to Englewood, Colorado where they remained until relocating to Phoenix ten years later. While in Phoenix, Al worked for a steel foundry. After his mother passed away, he moved back to Denver where he worked for Time-Life Magazine, selling subscriptions door-to-door. Soon after, his brother Art moved to Denver to live with him. Al married Emma Baca in 1963 and adopted her son, John. They had a daughter, Dawn. During this time he worked in the dental office of Dr. Wally West. Emma passed away in 1967. Al married Elizabeth (Liz)Tarpley in 1968. They had two daughters, Lisa and Rhonda. Al worked as an accountant for several firms in the Denver Metro area. He was employed for a number of years by Honeywell in their machine shop. He retired from an accounting position at Electric Supply Company in January, 2003. Al was active in the Englewood Jaycees in his thirties, after which he became a member of the ERPPS. He was actively involved in the Ham Radio community, taking part in many functions related to both social events and emergency radio communications. He became a member of the East Denver Masonic Lodge, No. 160, A.F. & A.M. where he twice served as Master. He later joined the Weston Masonic Lodge, No. 22, A.F. & A.M. in Littleton. In his last year he joined the Elks Lodge of Littleton. Al suffered from congestive heart failure as a result of contracting rheumatic fever as a child. He survived four open-heart surgeries during the last three decades of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Emma, his sister Pauline, and his brother Gordon. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, son John Cooley, daughters Dawn Deuter, Lisa (Brian) Kriss, and Rhonda (Glenn) Trautmann, grandchildren Chris (Erin) Cooley, Sarah (Brandon) Wulkotte, and Emmalee Cooley, Caleb and Levi Deuter, Elise Kriss, and Alex and Gracyn Trautmann. An additional grandchild and two great-grandchildren are expected in the coming months. He is also survived by siblings Shirley Wegert, Orra Parks, Dottie Terry, Sharron Sherman, and Art Cooley, as well as Beverly McCloud and Juanita Ray. Services will be held Monday, June 22, 1:00 p.m. at South Fellowship, 6560 S. Broadway, Littleton, followed by Masonic Rites at Littleton Cemetery. Reception following.
