Albert Rogers

Albert Rogers Al Rogers, life-long resident of Eugene, Oregon, died peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Avemere Rehabilitation Facility of Eugene. Born in Eugene, Oregon on January 14, 1925; son of Bert and Sarah Rogers and brother of William C. Rogers and Alyce R. Sheetz. He attended local Eugene schools and graduated from University High in 1943. Shortly after graduation he was called to serve his country in WWII. He served in the Navy for three years aboard the USS Lexington. He also served in Yokosuka, Japan during the Korean War. He attended the University of Oregon for a year before beginning a 35-year career with Pacific Northwest Bell, retiring in 1982. Al married Shirley Robinson (now deceased) in 1950 and raised two children. He was an avid Oregon Ducks fan and played golf, bowled and regularly engaged in running and walking to keep fit. He was a long-time track and field official at the University of Oregon and member of the Oregon Club. Al was involved in many organizations, including two leadership positions: President of Local 9206, Communications Workers of America; President of Telephone Pioneers; Life member of Eugene Elks Lodge 357; Life member of Eugene Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Post 293; and Member of the First United Methodist Church of Eugene. Al is survived by his wife, Nina; his daughter, Kimberly Rogers; his son, Bill Rogers; and his grandchildren: Destiny, Dustin, Danielle, Emily and Jacob. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, September 16, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, 1376 Olive Street, Eugene, Oregon. He will be laid to rest in a family plot in Wilkeson, Washington, at a later time, to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Post 293 or the First United Methodist Church, Eugene, Oregon. Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
