Obituary BRB FFH Amsterdam, NY Albert Vincent Turo Sr., 84, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon at St. Mary's Healthcare in the loving company of his family. Born in Hagaman on Aug. 11, 1929, the son of the late Albert and Alice Weaver Turo, he lived in this area his entire life and was educated locally. In his early years Al worked for ALCO and General Electric. In 1958 he founded Turo's Service Center which he operated until he retired in 2004. Al proudly served with the US Navy from 1946 to 1950 and received the World War II Victory Medal. He was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel RC Church where he served as usher for many years and was a member of the Holy Name Society. Currently he was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Al was a charter member of the Amsterdam High School Football Booster Club and enjoyed golfing, bowling and travelling. On October 29, 1950 he was united in marriage to the former Raffaella Sansalone at St. Michael's. Sadly she predeceased him on Feb. 22, 2005. Also his siblings Floyd Weaver, Robert Turo and Clara Bennett have passed away. He leaves his sons; Albert V. Turo Jr. and wife Carol of Albany, Joseph P. Turo and wife Ann Marie of Slingerlands and Thomas J. Turo and wife Kimberley of Hagaman; grandchildren; Brian (Danielle) , Jonathan, Matthew (finace Elizabeth Hoffman), Michael, Joshua and Alyssa Turo, and great grandson Ellis Turo; brother Charles Turo of Alabama; sisters in law Ann Weaver of Hagaman and Gilda (Angelo) DiBlasi of California; and nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Hardies for the exceptional and compassionate care and the many staff, caregivers and friends at St. Mary's Healthcare. Services are Friday at 8:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue followed by the Liturgy of the Word and Final Commendation at 9:15 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Fr. Lawrence J. Decker officiating. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family at St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Foundation of St. Mary's Hospital. Envelopes available at the funeral home.
