Albertus Van De Vliert Jr. “Alan”, age 62, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 29, 2020, in Mountain Home. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at the Idaho State VA Cemetery in Boise. Recordings of the service will be available upon request. Arrangements are under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel. Alan was born March 28, 1958, in Rochester, New York, to Albertus Van De Vliert and Rika Van De Vliert [née Veldhuizen]. He grew up in the Caledonia-Mumford area and graduated from Caledonia-Mumford Central High School in 1976. Alan started a Computer Science degree from State University of New York, and entered the Air Force in 1982. While working as an Avionics Technician on McClellan AFB, California, he met Penny Moore, and in August 1983, they married. While in the Air Force, Alan earned his Associate’s in Applied Science for Avionics Systems Technology from the Community College of the Air Force in 1986, Bachelors of Science in Management/Computer Information Systems from Park College in 1993, and his Bachelors of Science in Professional Aeronautics in 1994 from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Alan and his family were stationed at Upper Heyford, England, UK, Mountain Home AFB, and Ellsworth AFB, So. Dakota, where he served as a paralegal, then as Law Office Manager in the Judge Advocate General offices from 1992 to 2001. He left the military with the rank of Master Sergeant in 2001, and in 2002 began work for the State of Idaho, Health and Welfare, as a paralegal and left in 2008. No matter where he was, his care and love of the outdoors and his family was clear and constant. Cars, computer technology, and music were the hobbies that he was passionate about in his quiet, steady way. Alan was preceded in death by his father, Albertus Sr. (1998), his mother Rika (2005), and his younger brother Eric (2011). Alan is survived by his wife Penny, his daughters Tegan and her husband Mathew Horvath, Christa and her husband Joseph Burbank, his niece Victoria, and his grandchildren William and Grace Horvath; in addition to aunts, uncles, and cousins with whom he was very close. We miss him, and pray that one day we will see him again. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Alan’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, at www.stjude.org.

We Entrusted Albertus Van De Vliert Jr.'s Care To

Rost Funeral Home

As the only funeral home in Elmore County, the staff at Rost Funeral Home work hard to be active members of the Mountain Home community and to be there to take care of families in every way possible when the need arises. Our funeral home opened in 2005 when Jerry and Janette Rost purchased the business. We’ve continued to grow along with Mountain Home. Jerry’s career began more than fifty years ago in Boise, and along the way, he acquired an 1897 horse-drawn funeral carriage, which we proudly display in our facility....
