Alex Strauss of Chico passed away on Monday, Oct. 11, at age 17. Alex was born in Carmichael, Calif., and raised in Applegate, Calif. He and his family moved to Chico in 2005. Alex was a senior at Pleasant Valley High School. Alex recognized his need for a Savior during a gospel series in February 2002 and was saved just before his 9th birthday through Romans 5:8-9 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." Alex was known as a diligent student both at high school as well as at the Chico Gospel Hall, where both he and his family gathered with local Christians. Alex had plans for college next year, a job as a math tutor, and vacation travel with his family. They traveled as a family all over the western U.S. and especially enjoyed the national parks; Yellowstone was Alex's favorite. Alex and his dad always had various projects going on. They were regularly seen around town on their Friday evening outings, a habit they started when Alex was 18 months old. Alex is survived by his parents, Dan and Joan Strauss, an older brother Andrew, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Alex's passing is keenly felt by those who loved him. He will be sorely missed by family and friends. Alex's parents, Dan and Joan, are grateful to the Chico Gospel Hall members, Alex's fellow students, and other friends for their gracious expressions of love and support during this very difficult time. Alex is absent from the body and present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8. His family mourns their great loss and longs for that great reunion in heaven. "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Revelation 21:4 In lieu of flowers please send donations in memory of Alex Strauss to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, www.afsp.org/ Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Chapel, 1888 Springfield Drive in Chico, followed by a reception at the chapel, then a graveside service at Glen Oaks Memorial Park, 11115 Midway in Chico. Visitation and viewing will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Brusie Funeral Home, 626 Broadway in Chico. Please contact the family at [email protected] and let them know if you are planning to attend so that they can make appropriate arrangements.
