Alfred W. Al'' Young

Young, Alfred W. ?Al,? 73, of St. Petersburg, died of cancer, Monday May 20, 2002. He was born in McHenry, IL and was valedictorian of the 1947 graduating class of McHenry High. He moved his family in 1958 to St. Petersburg. He worked for Illinois Bell for 10 years, transferred to Peninsular Telephone Co. upon moving, and retired in 1986 as a Switching Services Manager from General Telephone Company in Tampa after 28 years. At the time of his illness, he was employed at Kash n? Karry on 9th St. in the Seafood Dept. He was a member of St. Raphael?s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and worked with the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Winifred; three daughters: Charlotte Michniewicz, Clearwater, FL; Mary Olitzky, Boynton Beach, FL; and Joanne Bird, St. Petersburg; four sons: George, of New Jersey; John, Perry, GA; and William and Joseph, both of St. Petersburg; seventeen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
