Mr. Alfred Paul Barth, Jr. of State Highway 30, Amsterdam died peacefully on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was 69. Born in Amsterdam, New York on January 25, 1944 he was the son of the late Alfred Sr. and Evelyn Bramer Barth. A lifelong area resident, Al aka "Paul" graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Following graduation he enlisted with the United States Air force and served proudly for over 4 years. During his tenure with the military he met the love of his life, Miss Susan Whitaker and they were married on March 12, 1966 in St. Andrew's Church, Harlow, England. Al returned to Amsterdam with his wife, and began a long career with General Electric until his retirement. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Susan; his sons, Christopher J. Barth of Amsterdam, NY and Paul D. Barth Tiffany Palazzo of Amsterdam, NY; three grandchildren, Melissa and Adrianna Barth and Morgin Russell; his brother in law, James Whitaker of Forres, Scotland; and several cousins. A Service of Remembrance will take place on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 3p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. William T. Hodgetts, Jr. presiding. A calling hour will precede the service beginning at 2p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Flowers will not be accepted. It was Al's wish that donations be made to the James Brennan Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078 or the Montgomery County SPCA, P.O. Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
