Alfred O. Gebo, 81, of Syracuse passed away unexpectedly and peacefully with his family by his side on Friday May 28th. Born and raised in Syracuse, NY, he lived the past 40 years in Nedrow, NY with the love of his life. Alfred was dedicated to helping and serving others. He spent 15 years as a fire fighter for the Southwood Volunteer Fire Department, where he held multiple positions of increasing responsibility. During that time and to better help others, he trained and became an EMT. He spent many years volunteering at the Food Pantry at St. James Church in Nedrow, eventually becoming an ordained minister himself so he could not only help others physically, but also spiritually. Alfred was an avid dance skater and would gain the envy of others as he fluidly danced along the rink to any music playing at the time. He loved to hunt and fish, camp in Cape Vincent during the French Festival, and create leatherwork and woodcarvings. However, his great passion was painting wildlife, where he found peace and tranquillity. He loved painting so much that he was still working on one prior to his passing. Alfred is predeceased by his mother who passed when he was only 1 years old, his father, Alfred O. Gebo Sr., his daughter, Sherri Lynn Gebo-Valenti, and the love of his life, Pat Hodgson. He is survived by his children, John F. Gebo (Rose) of Canastota, Elizabeth A. Aldrich of Rome, Robert A. Gebo (Melanie) of Warners, and Renee A. Gebo-LaPine (Denise) of Colorado, along with 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Calling hours will be held from 4 PM to 7 PM on Monday, June 7th at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina St. Syracuse, NY. Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery in Syracuse, on Tuesday, June 8th at 10 AM.
