Surrounded by her loving family, Alice peacefully slipped away on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2011. Alice was 89 years old, born Feb. 15, 1921 in Taunton, MA to Manuel and Etelvina Silva. She married Edgar E. Kaloust, who died at sea after they had one son, Edward. Alice remained single for many years, raising Edward alone, until she married John Ayres, who also predeceased her after retiring from the U.S. Coast Guard. John and Alice enjoyed many years together before his death, dancing and occasionally enjoying a good cocktail. They traveled and eventually settled in Florida together. Alice is survived by her son, Edward Kaloust, and also by her five grandchildren: Donna Hedgepath of Naples, FL; Kim Kaloust of MA; Richard Kaloust, John Kaloust, and Derek Kaloust, all of Tampa, FL. She also leaves behind five great-grandchildren: Chandler and Logan Hedgepath, Zachary, Emily, and Cole Kaloust. Alice is survived by her brother, George (Irene) Silva, and was predeceased by her sister Norma and brother Gilbert. Alice will also be sadly missed by her caregiver, Anna, and Edward's fiancé, Carol. Alice loved animals of all kinds and loved to sit by the water at Edward's house at family gatherings and New England clambakes. While we pause to think of her, we must remember the words of the poem, "I am not gone while you smile with me ... I am not gone while you remember me..." In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald fund. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Alice Silva Ayres will be held on Friday, March 18, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. at Malio's Restaurant, 400 North Ashley Drive, Tampa, FL. It will be followed by a luncheon reception.
