Alice Vilece Battle
May 13th, 1939 - February 6th, 2014
Alice Vilece Battle Mrs. Battle, 74, of Charlotte, NC passed away on February 6, 2014 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville. She was born on May 13, 1939 in New York City, daughter of the late Victor and Julia Vilece. Mrs. Battle received her B.A. in Mathematics from the College of Mt. St. Vincent in Riverdale, NY. She was very active in her church and community as member of the choir at The Cathedral of St. Patrick , serving on the Catawba River Foundation (Mountain Island Lake Keeper at the time of her death) and a past member of The Mountain Island Lake Marine Commission. Mrs. Battle enjoyed tennis, kayaking, swimming and piano and was totally devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren. Alice had an infectious love of life that inspired anyone who spent time with her. She was genuinely loved by many. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Vilece. Mrs. Battle is survived by her husband of 52 years, Brendan; sons, John Battle, Steven Battle and his wife, Josephine, and Robert Battle and his wife, Wendy; grandchildren, Emily Battle, Erin Battle, Joseph Battle and Vincent Battle; and a brother Victor Vilece and his wife, Ann. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC 28211 with Fr. Francis O'Rourke, Celebrant. Interment will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 12, 2014 in National Cemetery at Salisbury, NC. The family will receive friends at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203 on Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Monday, February 10, 2014 from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation, 421 Minuet Lane, Suite 205, Charlotte, NC 28217.
