Alice Louise Rhodes

     Alice Rhodes died peacefully on Sunday April 7th, 2024 in Eugene, Oregon at the age of 92.  

      She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Louise Denny; her brother Art Denny; her three sisters Lavon, Betty, and Lucy; her husband of 45 years, Cecil Rhodes; her husband of fifteen years, Esley Nelson; and her son Marvin Rhodes. 

     She is survived by her siblings Bob (Marisa) Denny of Tangent, OR and Carol (Claire) Denny of Oakridge, OR; her daughter Marilyn (Mike) Hooley of Eugene; her daughter-in-law Davona Rhodes; her grandchildren Josh Hooley, Sarah (Joe) Yenchik, Brandon (Kelly) Rhodes, and Kathleen (Logan) Oliver; and by her great-grandchildren Chase, Jaydn, Jacob, and Emma.

     Alice was born on July 5, 1931 in Deweese, Nebraska, to Arthur and Louise Denny. Shortly thereafter her family moved to Idaho for several years before settling in Creswell, Oregon. She met Cecil Rhodes at a church activity; they were happily wed in her parents’ backyard on June 6, 1948. She even made her own wedding cake!  

     In 1954 she gave birth to twins Marvin and Marilyn. That this was with very little labor pain was a claim Alice made countless times in the following seventy years. Hmmmm.

     Alice was an active bowler, neighborhood cake decorator, church organist & pianist, and seamstress. She toured the United States many times, from New York City to Honolulu. After growing up Methodist, she spent her adult years a faithful member of the Christian Church.

     Her sweet personality and bright eyes delighted all who knew her, even into her final hours.

     Alice will be buried alongside Cecil in the Creswell Cemetery.  A Memorial Service and Reception will be held at 12:30pm this Saturday April 13, 2024, at Coburg Commons (91193 N Willamette).
