On September 21, 2015 at Suncoast Hospice, Alice M. Shaughnessy left this world for eternal life. Alice was born on November 15, 1924 in Kenmare, North Dakota and baptized Roman Catholic on January 2, 1936 at the church of St. Agnes. She was the daughter of the late Walter L. Smith and Francis M. (Padraza) Smith. She was the second of thirteen children and believed to have had two daughters. Alice leaves behind her extended family; Dan (Dano) D. Wratten, John V. Williams, Mary Ann Jorgensen, Larry Grimes; goddaughter, Marie-Simone Grimes, Lilly and Randy Holly and daughter, Mimi; her lifelong friends, Gloria Stadler and Sita Brijlal. She loved refinishing anything that caught her eye which always leads to another yard sale. Alice was a determined, independent and stubborn Irish womanwho spent her life helping those less fortunate and was a loyal friend regardless of status, race or orientation. She was not concerned with political correctness and spoke exactly what was on her mind and once her mind was made up there was no changing it. Alice was known to climb on her roof well into her late 80's in order to cut tree limbs and repair leaks. there was nothing she couldn't do and she rarely asked for help. She was well known for her dedication to the Veterans of the United States and was a faithful contributor to the Wounded Warrior and Father Flanagan Boy's Town Ministry. At the request of Alice, there will be no memorial service and her remains will be laid to rest in accordance with her wishes.
