Beers and Story - Belchertown
Alice "Flynn" M. Sullivan
April 21st, 1920 - September 4th, 2018
"Belchertown-Alice M. (Flynn) Sullivan, 98, passed away September 4, 2018 in South Hadley. Born April 21, 1920 in South Portland, ME, she was the daughter of John and Ella (Burgess) Flynn. Alice has lived in Belchertown for the past 10 years, having lived most of her life in Springfield. During her working career, Alice had 2 jobs that she loved. The first was as a dance instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Springfield. She never thought of it as a job as she loved music and loved to dance and danced well into her 80s. The other job she enjoyed was working as a bridal consultant for Steigers for a number of years. Being very social, she loved spending time with people so it was natural for her to work in retail. She was very proud of her family and will be dearly missed by her son, John J. Sullivan and his wife Barbara of Belchertown as well as two grandchildren, John Sullivan and his wife Alison of Baltimore, MD and Brigitte Sullivan and husband Dr. Jake Brokaw of Baltimore, MD as well as 4 great grandchildren, Maia Reeb, James Reeb, Olivia Sullivan, and Maeve Sullivan. Alice was predeceased by her husband John J. Sullivan, Jr in 1944, who was killed in action while serving aboard the Destroyer Escort Samuel B. Roberts. She also was predeceased by her two brothers and one sister. Visitation will be Sunday, September 9 from 4-6:15 p.m. with a service and remembrances shared at 6:15-7:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home. Burial will be privately held on Monday at the MA Veterans' Memorial Cemetery. Alice's sweet tooth will be remembered with a smile by all of her family and friends, "A snickers a day keeps the doctors away" was one of her favorite expressions. Donations may be made in her memory to the Clapp Memorial Library. "
