Celebration of Life for Allan L. Culmer, Sr.
Allan Leopold Culmer, Sr. was born on December 17, 1927, in Philadelphia, PA. He was a man whose life was marked by a rich tapestry of experiences, interests, and talents that shaped not only his own journey but also the lives of those around him. Just ask anyone who knew him—he could charm his way through a room faster than his beloved model railroads could zip around a track.
Allan attended Northeast High School, where he laid the foundations for a life filled with ambition and continuous learning. His early career was as multifaceted as his personality. In his youth, he ran "Al's Poultry Truck," a venture that showcased his entrepreneurial spirit. Allan's career evolved over the years as he managed Culmer & Associates, Inc., became involved in life insurance sales, and even took on the role of a radio talk show host, among many other endeavors.
During World War II, Allan served in the Navy with distinction, achieving the rank of SMT 1st Class. His training took place in Bainbridge, MD, and he was later stationed in Guam. He eventually served aboard the U.S.S. Randall (AF115), experiences that undoubtedly contributed to his disciplined yet adventurous approach to life.
Allan's personal life was deeply intertwined with his interests and passions. He had a profound love of classical music and model railroading. The tradition of train sets at Christmas was a hallmark of the Culmer household, a testament to how Allan shared his enthusiasm with his sons. Whether it was assembling intricate model railways or discussing the nuances of classical compositions, Allan’s energy and curiosity were infectious.
Known for his kindness, humor, ambition, and honesty, Allan made an indelible mark on everyone he met. His personality traits were vividly evident in both his personal and professional life, where his dynamic nature and genuine interactions left lasting impressions.
Allan was a devoted family man. He leaves behind his cherished wife Ruth E., his daughter Kimberlee C. (and Warren Parker), and his sons Allan L. Jr. and Ivan E. His memory is also honored by his brother David B., as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Allan's son Douglas W. preceded him in death, a profound loss that the family has borne with grace.
Allan's life came full circle as he passed away in St. Petersburg, FL, on July 3, 2024. The celebration of his life will take place at the Elance at Pasadena, located at 1255 Pasadena Avenue S., St. Petersburg, FL, 33707. This ceremony will serve as an opportunity for family and friends to express their condolences and celebrate a life well lived.
Allan Leopold Culmer, Sr. leaves behind a legacy defined by resilience, passion, and an unwavering spirit. His life's journey serves as an inspiring narrative of how one can live fully, love deeply, and leave an enduring impact on the world.
In lieu of tears, do something Allan would’ve loved—crack a witty joke, let a model train run its course, or listen to a piece of classical music. That’s how Allan would’ve wanted it.
