Allen Justin Maxwell, Sr., 79, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Carolinas Medical Center. He was born in Charlotte in 1929, son of the late Justin Ward Maxwell and Mary Ethel Youngblood Maxwell. Mr. Maxwell graduated from Central High School in the Class of 1947 and received a BS degree from North Carolina State University in 1951. He managed the family business, Piedmont Feed Mills for a number of years and later worked for B&H Foods Inc, manufacturer of Ruth?s salad and sandwich spreads, where he ultimately retired in 1993 as President. Mr. Maxwell was a member of Myers Park United Methodist Church, the Owenby Sunday School Class and Charlotte Country Club. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Maxwell was the first scoutmaster of Troop 166 and later the scoutmaster of Troop 3. In retirement he enjoyed golf, gardening and woodworking. In addition to his wife, Ann Franklin Maxwell, he is survived by two sons, Allen Justin Maxwell Jr. and John Franklin Maxwell and his wife, Robin, all of Charlotte; two grandsons, Franklin Thomas Maxwell and Andrew Ward Maxwell; sister, Kitty Ward Maxwell Sellars; nieces, Mary Maxwell Sellars and Nancy Sellars Mundorf and nephew, Reverend and Mrs. Lacy Starr Sellars. There will be a memorial service to honor the life of Allen Maxwell at 11:00 AM on Friday morning, June 26, in the sanctuary of Myers Park United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. James Howell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in Jubilee Hall at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Crisis Assistance Ministries, 500-A Spratt Street, Charlotte, NC 28206-2913 or to Hospitality House of Charlotte, 1412 Scott Ave. Charlotte, NC 28203.
