Allen Walter Morris
February 20th, 2018
Allen Walter Morris, Jr. went to be with the Lord on February 20, 2018. He was born March 13, 1957 in Plant City, Florida, son of the late, Allen Walter Morris, Sr. and his mother Ethelene Blanton. He was an amazing loving husband, father, brother, nephew and son. Often called Junior, he was the oldest of four children; sister Cathy, and brothers Billy, and Patrick. He attended McArthur High School. His first job was working on a dairy farm in Florida. His first adventure as a teenager took him to Kentucky where he groomed horses at Church Hill Downs and then worked the coal mines. He moved to Charleston, SC in 1979 and worked at Charleston Truck Lines prior to his 39-year career as assistant supervisor at the North Charleston City Garage which he had a hand in designing. In 1988, his loving son, Allen Walter Morris, III, was born and he basked in every moment he had with him. Allen took great pride in restoring his 1987 Grand National. He liked to attend car shows, Gator Nationals, antique shops and flea markets. His main hobbies were gardening, working on cars, playing with hot rods, fishing and watching sports and Nascar racing. He especially loved baseball. He was an avid Pete Rose, Kentucky Wildcats, Miami Dolphins and a Cincinnati Reds fan. He coached football to many young men in his life time. Known as Big Al, he umpired baseball for more than 20 years. Allen was a member of the Lowcountry Collegiate Umpire’s Association and the Charleston Umpire’s Association. In Dec of 2009, he married the woman God gave him, Rosarminda Montalvo Morris of Summerville SC. She is his Sugar baby and the love of his life. He supported her in her career and the choices they made together. He was a humble man, who was loving, patient and an incredible husband. Allen lived life to the fullest. After his retirement in 2015, they found the perfect property to build their dream home, vacationed on cruises, road trips, date nights, spent quiet time on the beach, in the mountains, and enjoyed praying together. They spent a lot of their spare time being playful, making friends, enjoying each other’s company, as well as ministering to others. He and Rosie are members and served the Lord at Crossroads Community Church in Summerville, SC. As a believer in Jesus Christ he slid into his eternal home “safe” at the young age of 60. He is survived by his wife of Rosarminda Morris of Summerville, SC; one son, Allen Walter Morris, III of North Charleston, SC; his mother, Ethelene Blanton of St. Petersburg, FL; a sister, Cathy Grabowski of Crown Point, IN; two brothers, Billy Morris of Ladson, SC and Patrick Morris of Ocala, FL; four uncles: Ray Morris, Phillip Morris, Ted Morris, Gordon Morris; two aunts: Sarah Cruz, Susie Harden; and cousins Clifford and Lisa Naslund, along with numerous others. He was predeceased by Allen Walter Morris, Sr; one Uncle: Albert Morris; three aunts: Mae Schneider, Wanda Stone, and Marlene Kaad. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 11th, 2018 at Crossroads Community Church, 505 Gahagan Road, Summerville, SC, 29485. Visitation: 5:00 PM. Service: 6:00 PM. Memorials may be made to Crossroads Community Church. Or, because of his love of gardening, in lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Allen’s Garden Memorial Fund, for planting a memorial garden in his honor at his and Rosie’s dream home. Donations may be sent to the Church Office.
