Allison Regan Hopkins

Allison Regan Hopkins, 88 of Charleston, SC passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2024. Allison was born on March 29th, 1936 in Utica, NY to the late Allison V.B. Regan and William J. Regan, Sr. Allison is predeceased by her late husband of 65 years, Richard O. Hopkins, son, Peter F. Hopkins and granddaughter, Carolyn M. Hopkins. Allison, affectionately known as “Honey”, is survived by sons, William P. Hopkins of New York City, Richard C. Hopkins of Buffalo, NY and daughter Allison H. Prey (Gregory) of Charleston, SC, nine of her ten grandchildren, two brothers, two sister-in-laws and several nieces and nephews.

Honey grew up outside of Buffalo, NY and was a graduate of Buffalo Seminary (’53) and Bennett Junior College (’55). She was a warm and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and “Auntie” to all and often had a twinkle in her eye and a “small world” story to tell. Spending time with family (which included her many beloved Golden Retrievers) was Honey’s top priority in life. Planning family trips, holiday meals, summer vacations on the Canadian shores of Lake Erie and gatherings of any size, brought Honey and those around her great joy and a strong sense of belonging. Honey’s family was a long time member at The Country Club of Buffalo where she played golf and tennis and swam with her grandchildren in the pool. Later on in life Honey learned how to snow ski and enjoyed watching her grandchildren ski and play ice hockey. She attended a variety of their sporting events, recitals and art shows. Throughout the years Honey enjoyed playing Bridge and Mah Jongg at The Garret Club in Buffalo and later on in Charleston, SC, where she and her husband moved to in 2019. Always one to volunteer her time and talents, Honey was a member of various school committees, The Junior League of Buffalo, The Maria Love Convalescent Fund, The Trinity Center and started a support group for parents of children with Dyslexia back in the 1970’s. She never missed her children’s school events, theater performances, sports games and college parent weekends.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025 at 11:00 with a reception immediately following at Calvary Episcopal Church, 20 Milton Street, Williamsville, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Allison’s name to Buffalo Seminary, 205 Bidwell Parkway, Buffalo, NY 14222.
