Alma L. Sightler

August 13th, 1936 - August 8th, 2024

In Loving Memory

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Alma Sightler of Columbia, South Carolina, who died at the age of 87 on August 8, 2024. Alma passed surrounded by loved ones. She was a beloved wife, mother, and so much more. Alma was known for her unwavering love for the Lord, her passion for others, and her devotion to her family. Alma was born August 13, 1936, in Columbia to Rosa and Edger Lake. Alma graduated from Olympia High School in 1955 and married Russel Sightler in October of 1960. 

 

Alma is preceded in death by Russel Sightler her loving husband, her parents Rosa and Edger Lake, her daughter Terry Sightler, her brothers Grady and Jake Lake and her beloved Yorkie Banjo. She is survived by her daughter Angela Sightler, her grandchildren Christine Foster (Ty), Casey Jeffords, and Jessica Drake (Daniel), her great-grandchildren Madison Jeffords, Layla Jeffords, Brooklyn Foster, and Jonathan Crocker.  Alma known to so many as “Granny” also had step great-grandchildren by the names of Avery, Brandon and Whitley Foster, and great-great-grandchildren by the names of Mateo and Mayleigh Munoz and Kinslee and Brady Noyola. Granny owned a cat named Mustachio who will now be taken care of by surviving family members. 

 

Granny enjoyed cooking supper for the family, puzzles and crosswords. Granny was known for her bowling skills with the Gogo Girls League.

 

A graveside service celebrating Alma’s life will be held at 3 pm on Wednesday August 14th at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested all donations to be made through Thompson Funeral Home. 

 

Rest in Peace, Granny. Your legacy of love, laughter and joy lives on forever in our hearts.
