Almon Alton Lehman

Al died at home in Newberg, Oregon on October 24, 2011 – only 6 days short of his 90th birthday. He was born to Charly and Freida (Schirmann) Lehman on October 30, 1921 in Suver, Oregon. He had four siblings, Emily Thomas, Lucille McCracken, Lawrence Lehman, and Lyle Lehman – all of whom preceded him in death. He married Lois A. (Ketchum) on February 16, 1947 and that was the beginning of 64 wonderful years of marriage, they had five children. He resided in the following places: Suver, Jefferson, Salem, Coos Bay (1947-8), Eugene (1955-1963), and Newberg (1966-2011) – all in Oregon, plus 3 years in Camas, Washington (1963-1966). Al served in the Army and was attached to the 104th Infantry Division, Timber Wolves, as a surgical Technician/Ambulance Driver during WWII from 1942-1946. He worked in several different industries including driving truck for a road crew; Sawmill & Lumber mill; Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill; Mail Delivery for U.S. Postal Service in Camas, WA, Newberg, and Dundee, OR for 26 years. He enjoyed gardening for both food and beauty as well as woodworking. He also traveled to Mexico, Hawaii, and took a year -long motorhome trip around the U.S. to New Jersey. Church was an important part of Al’s life, he was a Sunday School Teacher at Rosedale & South Salem Friends Churches; Board Member at Coos Bay Nazarene; Founding member, Elder and Clerk of Eugene Friends Church; Elder at Camas Friends Church; Founding member, Elder and Clerk at North Valley Friends Church. He is survived by his wife Lois; children, Elaine (John) Davis, Beverly (Barry) Tharp, Linda (John) VanDyke, Ron (Annetta) Lehman, and Roy Lehman; grandchildren Angela, Alyson, Erika (Pat Fechtner), John, Nicole, Erin Davis; BJ (Jen), Brenda Tharp (Jeff Klohs); Casey, Cory, Brad VanDyke; Jake, Tarah (PJ Selanoff), Mandy (Noah Broderick), Sharee Lehman; Deana (Lee Crickmer), Clista (Nathan Sedivec), Lehman; great grandchildren Tayha Saulque, Derek & Danika Fechtner, Jennifer & John Davis, Devon & Jessica Herrera, Breadon, Shaylee & Lakota Tharp, Nora & McKenzie Klohs, Trask VanDyke, Neveah & Chloe Lehman, Aiyana & Cedar Schuler, Judah & Jethro Selanoff, Bella Broderick, Tristan & McKenna Crickmer, Kiera, Kaylynn & Grace Sedivec and great-great grandchild Carter.
