Alva Jackson

Alva Jackson Alva Jackson of Eugene passed away on October 25th 2014 of age related causes. Alva was born May 17th 1934 in Omaha Nebraska to Alvin and Edith (Barto) Koch. Alva married LeRoy Knutson in 1951 and together they had 3 children, Karen, Kurt, and Korey. They later divorced. Alva married Frank Jackson in 1967 and added his children, Debbie, Rhonda, and Brian to her family. Survivors include her husband Frank D. Jackson, sister Beverly Escarzega of Cerritos CA., brother Tom Koch of North Carolina, and her 6 children Karen Raymond (Danny), Kurt Knutson (Eva), Korey Knutson, Debbie Brown, Rhonda Denham (Kirk), and Brian Jackson, all living in Oregon. She also is survived by 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Her parents, her stepmother Miriam Koch, and her brother Paul (Eddie) McManus preceded her in death. Alva worked at Safeway for 30 plus years and was very much a people person. It seemed that everywhere she went she would meet people who knew her from working in the store or from other activities she was involved with, and you could tell they genuinely enjoyed visiting with her. Alva was a union delegate who represented her local retail clerks union for several years. After her children were raised, she returned to college and earned her Associates degree in Marketing, while still working full time. In retirement she enjoyed playing golf and was the treasurer for the Willamette Valley Senior Women’s organization at Shadow Hills Country Club. She loved to travel to Hawaii and she and Frank spent many of their vacations golfing there. While at home Alva loved to knit on her fancy computerized knitting machines. She also sewed, embroidered and crocheted for relaxation. She loved being creative and shared her most of what she made with others. She also loved gardening, reading, spending time with her family and making her home warm and inviting place for her family. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 2nd at West Lawn Memorial Funeral Home, 225 South Danebo Ave., Eugene, OR.
