Alvin Y. Goins
July 31st, 1929 - August 14th, 2015
Alvin Y. Goins, 86, of Kingsport (formally of Hawkins County) passed away, Friday, August 14 2015 at Indian Path Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born July 31, 1929 to the late Zack and Bessie Begley Goins. He was saved at the age of 17 at Compromise Baptist Church under the preaching of Rev. Hoyle Minor. Alvin was well known for his gospel singing. He sang with several quartet and trios in the area. The last was with the Heavenly Way Trio for 32 years. He has seen many souls saved singing for the Lord. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church where he had been the Choir Director for the past 47 years. He loved his pastor, choir and his entire church family. He worked for 17 years at J. P. Stevens Cotton Mill. He retired from Home Beneficial Insurance Company after 23 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. Georg L. Goins and infant brother, Glenn Goins. Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, Louise Thurman Goins; his only daughter, TeRonna Hall and husband Tim of Blountville; two precious grandchildren, Jackie Hall and Chris Hall; two sisters, Naomi Lawson of Rogersville, Gloria Manis of Gate City; one brother, Willie (Sambo) Goins and wife, Clara of Nicklesville; special friends, N.R. and Shirley Canipe, Jim and Tina Hagie, Joyce Jones; special sister-in-law, Jean Davidson; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 pm to 7 pm, August 16, 2015 at Pleasant View Baptist Church, 2101 Stadium Drive. Kingsport, TN 37664. A funeral service will follow at 7 pm at the church with Pastor Wayne Baker, Evangelist Pat Hammond and Pastor J.W. Depew officiating. Music will be provided by Pleasant View Baptist Church Choir and Pastor J.W. Depew. A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Monday August 17, 2015 at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of David. Pallbearers will be Renn Lawson, Doug Jenkins, Jim Hagie, Johnny Gordon, James Phillips, Chris Ball, Bobby Laughlin and Jim Thurman. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of the church. Family and friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Pleasant View Baptist Church, 2101 Stadium Drive. Kingsport, TN 37664. The family would like to thank the staff of Indian Path Medical Center for the kindness they have shown. Our family has been ministered to by angels disguised as doctors, nurses, CNA's, respiratory therapist, physical therapist, speech language pathologist, housekeepers and volunteers. Those needing special recognition include Tracy, Mallory, Roger, Loretta, Austin, Gail, Brian and Esther. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Goins family.
