Alyn Rovin
March 6th, 1934 - January 4th, 2024
Alyn Rovin was born on March 6, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA. He attended Central High School in Philadelphia and received a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He got his Master’s in Business Administration from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Alyn served four years in the Navy and was commissioned in 1957 during the Cold War as an Ensign. After 1 ½ years, he advanced to Lieutenant Junior Grade. He was stationed on multiple ships in the Atlantic Fleet. Alyn married his wife, Nancy, in 1963. In 1964, Alyn and Nancy joined the Peace Corps. They were sent to Malaysia where he taught math, science and physics in a girl’s high school, and was involved in community development work. This experience resulted in lifelong friendships. After returning to the US in 1966, Alyn and Nancy settled in Carlisle, MA where they lived until 2010. Alyn started his career as an electrical engineer working for RCA. He transitioned to purchasing and procurement roles at Polaroid where he spent much of his time in Asia. He worked as an executive at EG&G for many years until his retirement. Throughout his career, he traveled extensively throughout Asia and Europe. Alyn was active in the local community of both Carlisle and Concord, MA. He played the clarinet and performed with the Concord Music Club, Concord Orchestra and Carlisle Cats. Alyn was an active member of Temple Emanuel of the Merrimack Valley in Lowell, MA. He served as the Temple’s President for a period of time. Both of Alyn and Nancy’s children were born in Concord and grew up in Carlisle. Alyn and Nancy traveled the world together and created long-lasting friendships. During their travels he and Nancy refined their globally influenced palettes. They loved to host dinner parties and treat their guests to dishes they tasted throughout their travels. In 2015, Nancy and Alyn moved to Florida to be near their children and grandchildren. They were a source of great joy for him. Alyn is survived by his children Joshua Rovin (Peggy Crawford) and Kailah Matyas (Marc), grandchildren, Olivia, Asher, Maddox, and Mason, sister, Fern Stoffer (Sid), nephews, Jeffrey (Jennifer) and Jonathan (Anita), great nieces (Bryn and Maya) and great nephew (Dylan).
