Ambrose Jones
October 26th, 1924 - March 3rd, 2018
Ambrose Jones, age 93, husband of Margaret Thurman Jones, passed away on Saturday March 3, 2018 at St Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born in Clark County on October 26, 1924 and had resided in Woodford County since 1936, the fifth of six sons born to Gardner and Bertha Jones, all of whom preceded him in death. Ambrose was a prominent Woodford County land owner and farmer, a member of The Keeneland Club since 1966, and The Thoroughbred Club of Lexington. He was a Kentucky Colonel, Member of the Kentucky Farm Bureau Board, and Young Farmers of Woodford County. He was a friend to all, never met a stranger, had a beautiful and contagious smile, and had cared for and helped so many at one time or another. His love and special care of animals was evident, and all the farm animals seemed to know when Papaw was out and about checking on them. Right before his 90th birthday he smiled and said he could hardly believe he was this age and simply said “It’s Been A Lot Of Fun”. One of his favorite places was the ocean, where he enjoyed the sun, sand, and seafood. In addition to his wife, Margaret, of 71 years, he is survived by two sons, Ambrose Gardner Jones and his wife Carol and Jack Wallace Jones (Jean) both of Woodford County. A chosen daughter, Cindy Litsinger of Flora, Mississippi has also loved him throughout the years. Six grandchildren, Jarred Jones and his wife Jessica, Amy Jones Owens, Zack Jones, Brad Jones, Jack Jones (Danielle) and Nick Jones. Six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, who loved their Uncle Ambrose. In John Chapter 11 verse 25 Jesus said “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die”. Ambrose believed this promise and put his life and trust in Jesus many years ago by accepting Him and was baptized at Pinckard Baptist Church in Versailles. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 from 5-8p at Clark Funeral Home on Rose Hill, Ver-sailles with the funeral to follow on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 12p. Burial will be at Rose Crest Cemetery in Versailles. Jack Jones, Jarred Jones, Nick Jones, Tommy Jones, Glynn Crain and longtime friend Tommy Brown will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Bearers are Brad Jones, Larry Sallee, Joe Campbell, Tom Smith, Kenny Houston, and Mark Crutchfield. A special thank you to Pastors Mike James and Wally Rendel for your prayers and assurance.
