Amin N. Jurf

St. Petersburg, FLA- Dr. Amin N. Jurf, 83, died May 6, 2016 at Westminster Palms Palm Center. Amin is survived by his 4 children, Robert, Fred, Alice and Sue, 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.Born in Syria, Amin attended high school in Beirut, Lebanon and in 1955 at the age of 19 moved to the United States to study medicine. He met his wife, Margaret, at Western Maryland College in Westminster, Maryland where they married in 1958. Amin earned his PhD at the University of Maryland in 1967, and had a long career teaching Physiology and Physical Therapy at University of Maryland Medical School, as well as universities in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. His passion, expertise and rapport with his students earned him Teacher of the Year in 1976. Amin and his wife raised their four children in Maryland, and enjoyed years of domestic and international travel. After Margaret's death in 2009, Amin moved to St. Petersburg FLA to be near Alice and enjoy his retirement in a warm climate. He spent the last six years of his life enjoying good times with his many new friends as well as cooking, fishing, playing slots in casinos, and visiting his children and grandchildren throughout the country. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the American Heart/Stroke Association (www.donatenow.heart.org).
