Amy M. Goren
June 8th, 1959 - August 23rd, 2016
Amy Sue Goren (Morningstar) was born on June 8, 1959 and succumbed to her battle with cancer on August 23, 2016. Adoring wife, doting grandmother, sister, aunt, and mother, Amy was known for her fervor, stoic determination, grit, resilience, artistic nature, whimsy, and faith. Amy had the hard-working nature of her father and his father of German-Mennonite descent. Life did not challenge Amy, she challenged life. From making a living as an oil hand on the derricks in Wyoming in the 80s, to raising a child on her own, to going back to school late in life, and earning her bachelor's in engineering and master's degree in project management; she achieved anything she set her mind towards. Her determination had many shades that led her down countless paths. She rebuilt engines, trained horses, and made works of art still adored on walls today. She learned Spanish and German, and rewired the entire electrical system in an orphanage with her brother in Nicaragua. She worked for 10 years on our nation's THADD missile defense system. She met the love of her life Yehuda Goren, they married on June 7, 2002 and as kindred spirits, traveled the world together. Her battle with cancer was the only obstacle her mind didn't defeat. However, it did bring the gift of a deep and meaningful connection with Christ, her savior. This gave her solace during her last days. She said, "If my death means that others find God, and I see them again in Heaven, than I don't mind so much…it was worth it." Amy is survived by her husband Yehuda Goren, Margaret (Sue) Morningstar (mother), her sister Nancy Thompson (husband: Jeff, children: Casey, Patrick, Jack, and Sang), her brother Mike Morningstar (wife: Maryann, children: Jessica, Matthew, and Michael), her daughter Maggie Morningstar-Harris (wife: Elizebeth, son: Kai), her son in law Eran Goren (wife: Magen, children: Reese, Hayden, and Carter) and her son in law Andy Goren (wife: Heather, children: Benjamin and Eli) Memorial will be held at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel on Friday August 26, 2016 at 2pm.
