Andjelka Bojic Raicevic

ANDJELKA BOJIC RAICEVIC Passed away on December 25th, 2012 at the age of 74 years after suffering a stroke on the 18th. She passed away at Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, CA. Andjelka was born on March 15th 1938 in Bihac, Bosnia-Herzegovina and was the daughter of Vidak Bojic and Darinka Miljkovic. As a child Andjelka grew up in Montenegro and in 1959 escaped to Germany with her future husband Vojo Raicevic. In 1962 they were able to emigrate to the United States and eventually became proud citizens and successful business owners. She also earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from San Diego State University and began devoting significant amounts of her time to the Serbian Orthodox Church. Being elected as the President of the Circle of Serbian Sisters for the Western American Diocese in the early 90's, she visited many of our Church's congregations across the Western US. In her travels, she came upon the historic mining town of Angels Camp, CA made famous by the California Gold Rush and Mark Twain's story "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County", in that town was a small church St Basil of Ostrog established in 1910 by Serbian miners and their families. She fell in love with the area and moved there. For the past two decades she has given her energy, time and funds to support the congregations and friends she has made along the way. An fascinating biography was written recently in the Union Democrat newspaper and can be found with an internet search. Andjelka is survived by her only child, Vladimir Raicevic, his wife Silvana, their three sons Stefan, Aleksandar and Nikola of Escondido, CA. She also has Punisha (Puyo) Zizic, nephew in Lake Zurich, IL; Sonya Dara Haviland, niece in Abbeville, LA; and Tijana Bojic, niece in Belgrade, Serbia. She also very much loved Vera (Raicevic) Haurdic and Lidija (Raicevic) Johnson, including their children, who were her step-daughters from Vojo's first marriage. She was preceded in death by her parents Darinka (1980), Vidak (1992), sister Branislava Bisch (2003) and brother Dragoljub Bojic (2005). Mama we love you very much and will miss you forever! There will be a viewing and prayer service Thursday, January 3rd at 7:00 pm at Daneri Mortuary, 415 Broadway, Jackson, CA 95642 (flowers may be sent here). The Funeral Service will be held Friday, the 4th of January at 11:00 am at St. Basil of Ostrog Serbian Orthodox Church, 930 S. Main Street, Angels Camp, CA 95222. The burial will immediately follow at 12:30 pm at the Serbian Cemetery off of Old Stockton Road, Angels Camp, CA. A memorial lunch/Dacha will also be held at approximately 2:00 pm at the St. Sava Church Fellowship Hall, 724 North Main Street, Jackson, CA 95642.
