Andrew "Andy" Delucchi
April 24th, 1922 - November 17th, 2012
A private committal service was held in Santa Cruz this past week for Andy Delucchi who passed away at his daughter Joy's home on November 17, 2012. Born in Santa Cruz, he was 90 years old. Andy attended Holy Cross Elementary School, Mission Hill Jr. High School and was the last graduating class of Chaminade High School in 1940. Andy was a long time resident of La Selva Beach and farmed for more than 58 years. From 1956 to 1974, he owned and operated Andy's Berry Farm. Upon his retirement in 1974, and up until his passing, was a landlord of various agriculture properties. Andy was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Capitola, a member of the Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau, the Agricultural History Project, and Santa Cruz Elks Lodge. He was an avid duck hunter; owning his own duck cabin in Gustine at the Hollister Land and Cattle Company Duck Club, and a member of Ducks Unlimited. Andy loved fishing too, especially at Diamond Lake, Oregon, and was skilled at deer and elk hunting. He was a familiar face as one of the River Street Boys lunch group that meets monthly at De Laveaga Lodge. He is survived by his daughters Dorothy Ann Delucchi and Joy Marie Delucchi. He also leaves his granddaughters Rosalynn Garza, Angela Arellano; grandsons: Richie Arellano and Nicholas Arellano; great granddaughter, Amanda Jo Garza, and great grandson, Jackson Arellano. Andy also is survived by his brother, William Delucchi and his sister, Frances Pletschet. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy G. Delucchi in 2002, and his brother, Louis "Gino" Andreotti in 1999. Andy's family would like to extend a special thank you for the professional and loving assistance he received from his caregivers: Rosie, Steve, Lupe, Nick and April; the special people at Satellite Dialysis of Capitola with Dr. Kumar and Staff; also to Palliative Care and Support Services, and to Hospice of Santa Cruz County with Tom our R.N. and their staff. Andy had a special passion for the students and teachers at Chartwell School, which meets specific needs of Dyslexic, ADD, and ADHD students. "Because not all great minds think alike", please make any donations in Andy's name to Chartwell School (2511 Newman Watson Rd, Seaside, CA 93955 www.chartwell.org) or to calwaterfowl.org.
