Ann Hardison McGoogan
January 12th, 1922 - September 10th, 2014
Ann Hardison McGoogan, age 92, of Charlotte, NC, died peacefully in her home on September 10, 2014. She was the third beloved daughter of the late William Cameron Hardison and Nancy Stanback Hardison. Preceding her in death were her husband of 44 years, Edward Graham McGoogan, and her two sisters, Nancy Hardison Bowman and Hilda Hardison Little. Ann was born and raised in Wadesboro, where she shared many happy times with cousins and friends. She was the valedictorian of Wadesboro High School, class of 1939. She went on to be an honor student and graduate of Woman's College (now UNCG). During World War II, and while in college, she married the love of her life, Ed, in 1942. After living in Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Spruce Pine, and Asheville, they made their home in Charlotte in 1956, where they raised their sons Graham and Bill. Family and faith were always the center of Ann's life. She adored her family and they adored her. Throughout her 92 years, Ann's faith was consistently demonstrated by her kind, gentle, thoughtful interactions with all who were fortunate enough to know her. Active at St. John's Episcopal Church since 1958, Ann was a gifted vocalist who volunteered in the church choir, gift shop, and served on the Prayer Committee. She was a member of the Foxcroft Garden Club, and enjoyed spending time with her dear neighbors. Ann is survived by her two sons, Edward Graham McGoogan, Jr. and wife Grace, and William Hardison McGoogan and wife Anne. She is also survived by her five grandsons: Edward Graham McGoogan III, William Hardison McGoogan Jr., Charles Cameron McGoogan, Stuart Gordon McGoogan, and Harrison Scott Johnson McGoogan. In addition, she is survived by four nieces: Ann Cameron Shuman, Hilda Little Jones, Elizabeth Little Roseman, and Judy Brown Johnson, as well as several great-nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for loving care provided by Marcia Silva, Graciela Martinez, Betty Ledesma, and Esther Scott, and other wonderful helpers, who enabled Ann to remain in her home. Funeral services for Ann will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM with a reception to follow there. Interment will be private. Memorial gifts in honor of Ann may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 1623 Carmel Rd.
