All-States Cremation - Wheat Ridge
Ann Poindexter
August 14th, 1936 - March 22nd, 2015
Our beloved Ann Adell (Hales) Poindexter passed peacefully but unexpectedly in Erie, Colorado on March 22, 2015 at the age of 78. Ann is survived by her children Michael “Mike” Clifford Poindexter of Humansville, MO, Scott Willis Poindexter of Denver, CO and Annadell Elizabeth (Poindexter) Burke of Lafayette, CO, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Deloris Kimsey of Guthrie, OK and Babetta Ballard of Sallisaw, OK along with multiple nieces, nephews and too many friends and students to count. Ann was born on August 14, 1936 in Tulsa, OK to Winfield Scott “Red” Hales and Amelia Elizabeth (Kopp) Hales. After graduating from Putnam City high school, in 1954, she attended Central State University Edmond, Oklahoma graduating with a teaching degree and later received her Master’s degree in Home Economics from Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, MO. After 32 years of teaching in the multiple public school systems in Nevada, South Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama and Missouri, Ann retired but never stopped teaching. She created and operated a non-profit to help adults receive their GEDs in Odessa, MO and surrounding areas for 14 years. After moving to Erie, Colorado to be closer to one of her sons and daughter, Ann continued teaching, but this time her first love sewing. Ann was a sewing instructor, author and speaker with a passion to teach the art and skill of sewing to all ages for the past 7 years. Her love for sewing was instilled on her mother’s knee at a treadle machine and has grown her entire life. Ann’s extensive sewing experiences ran from sewing for her family to speaking at major sewing conferences around the country. The world has a huge hole in it without the warmth and love Ann brought to everything she did, and everyone she met. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to an endowment trust fund to continue Ann’s legacy and passion for education and sewing. The Ann Poindexter Scholarship Trust will fund a scholarship at her alma mater in Edmond, OK for undergraduate studies in the Department of Education, with an emphasis on Family and Consumer Sciences (aka Home Economics/including a sewing requirement).
