Anna Grace Koester

Anna Grace Koester, 75, of Greeley died at her home on Sunday, August 21, 2011. She was born in Sentinel, OK, and grew up in Hobart, OK, where she graduated from Hobart High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and a master’s degree in psychology from The University of Oklahoma (OU). She did further graduate work at OU and at Oklahoma State University. Anna’s career included teaching in elementary schools in Oklahoma and at a juvenile detention center in Cleveland, OH. In the 1980s she became an expert in Apple computer technology. She retired from Sykes (SEI) in Greeley as a Mac telephone tech and continued building, rebuilding and repairing Macs until just before her death. Her strong belief in human rights for all led her to work on peace and justice issues, and she could frequently be found on a Greeley corner protesting governmental actions she deemed counter to justice for all. Anna was a talented artist, working in various media, including woodcarving and making musical instruments, such as Appalachian dulcimers, flutes, and recorders. She is survived by her life partner of 36 years, Ann Ratcliffe of Greeley; daughter, Kenna Koester of Boulder, CO; sons Kirk Koester of Washington, DC; Kerry Koester of Hobart, OK; and Paul Koester of Vernon, TX; one grandson; and two great granddaughters. A celebration of Anna’s life will be held on Sunday, August 28, at 1:30 pm, at the Creative Center for Spiritual Living, 1113 8th Avenue, Greeley.
