Anna T. Lyon

Anna T. Lyon August 28, 1935-February 23, 2021 Anna, our 85 year old beautiful wife, mother and grandmother was called home to Glory February 23, 2021 after year’s long battle with dementia. Graveside Funeral Services to celebrate her life will be held 1:00PM Tuesday March 2, 2021 at Westminster Gardens Cemetery in Greensboro. Pierce-Jefferson Lambeth Chapel will assist the Lyon family in Greensboro. The family will greet friends with a walk-through visitation prior to the service on Tuesday from 11:30AM to 12:30PM at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services Lambeth Chapel. Anna was born in Bellaire, Ohio to the late Irvin L. and Hetty W. Tongret. She also was preceded in death by siblings Janet, Thomas and Wilbur Tongret. Surviving is her husband of 64 years, James T. Lyon, Jr of Wilmington, NC; daughter, Jennifer Lyon of Wilmington, NC; son, James T. Lyon, III and Cindy of Novi, MI; grandchildren, Christine and JT, IV; siblings Mary, Jim and Stewart Tongret; and extended family and friends who all will miss her. A special mention goes to her loving longtime friend of more than 60 years, Jeanette Scott. Anna spent her early years in Ohio and moved to Greensboro, NC at age sixteen, to finish her education. Anna graduated from Alamance High School and Business College, Greensboro. She met her “Jim” on a blind date and were married in 1956. Their married life took them to Pennsylvania and Oklahoma before retiring to Wilmington, NC in 1992. Anna was a former Secretary/Office Manager at JD Wilkins Steel and Dennison Corp before becoming a fulltime homemaker. She was a big reader and loved to work in her beautiful yard before dementia started its relentless course. The family would like to thank the staff on the 9th floor NHRMC, who cared for mom while there in September, 2020 especially Kim, RN. Anna spent her last months at Davis Community Artisan house, thank you to the staff there who took sweet care of mom. “A special thank you goes to Lower Cape Fear Life Care, Kristy, RN for your guidance, Brianna, Hospice Caregiver who gently cared for Anna. Also, Monica, SW and Nancy, Chaplain for your compassion. Thank you to Dr. Surak, Dr. McPherson and Lynette Pearsail, NP for your care. Special thank you to Dr. MacDonald NHMG and staff, and Drs. Burns, DDS and staff for your care and kindness.
