Anna Schreiner
March 11th, 1920 - April 18th, 2015
In Memory of Anna Schreiner March 11, 1920 ~ April 18, 2015 In the early morning hours of April 18, 2015 our mom, grandmother, great- grandmother and mother-in-law passed away surrounded by her loving family. At the age of 95 she departed to share her many gifts with others. God placed Anna among his angels, of this we are sure and we have faith that she will watch over us as we continue our journey here on earth. One day, not too long ago, she promised to prepare a home for us in a new place and she assured us that she knew exactly what we would like. Knowing her it will be exquisite! We will rejoice when we can be reunited once again in the Kingdom of Heaven. During her years in the United States beginning in 1989 she did interesting, funny, challenging and loving things. She was totally involved with all of us and was a friend, helper, confidant, coach, advisor, counselor, referee, and a soft place to fall to all of us. How lucky we were that she decided to join our lives. In her active years she helped with the household, did all the gardening and she helped where she could in the real estate business. She even seemed to enjoy stuffing envelopes with marketing materials. She liked arts and crafts, loved reading her German books and magazines, tending her plants and spoiling her grandchildren and later, her great-grandchildren. Anna joined her daughter and son-in-law on a number of trips. She traveled to Barbados, Florida (several times), Las Vegas, Utah, Puerto Vallarta and made two trips back to Germany (the last one in 1999). Sometimes she stayed at home and enjoyed a “stay-cation” as well. After the age of 90 Anna’s health began to deteriorate slowly. A lifelong heart condition became more difficult and years of smoking earlier in life caught up to her. She fell twice while gardening and ended up with a broken vertebra once and broken ribs the second time. The last few years became increasingly difficult as her short term memory began to fail and dementia set in. She pulled through two hospitalizations with pneumonia but became more fragile each time. She received the best care possible from her devoted daughter who never once wavered in caring for her. We were able to enjoy one last birthday with her…her 95th! We will never forget that we could have blown all of us up that day when we paraded into her bedroom (which contained an oxygen machine) with a proudly lit birthday cake. We also had one last Easter Sunday with her for which we will be forever grateful. On April 16th she was rushed to the hospital unconscious. Although she was stabilized it was determined that she had suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke. She briefly regained consciousness for a short time right before her passing. We were all able to say our last goodbyes and she looked at all of us gathered around her. Her eyes told us that she knew that we were there and that she understood what was happening before she gazed away and drew her last breaths. She will forever be an example to us of a life well lived. Although we are all heartbroken with loss and sorrow, we know that her journey continues elsewhere and that one day we will see each other again!
