Anne Bickmore
July 18th, 1918 - June 22nd, 2011
Anne Elizabeth Stecz Bickmore of Viera, Florida, formerly of Tillson, NY, died Wednesday June 22 at Viera Hospital, Florida. Mrs. Bickmore was born and raised in Haverstraw, NY. She attended the Grand Central School of Art in New York City. She worked in New York for the Borden Company where she met her future husband, Jesse O. Bickmore, to whom she was married for 39 years until his death in 1982. They lived for many years in New City and then retired to New Paltz, NY where they owned and operated The Little Red House of Gifts from 1964 until 1977. Pursuing her passion for art, Mrs. Bickmore studied with Barbara Burge and James Shine in New Paltz, attended art workshops in Rockport, Mass, Barrett House in Poughkeepsie, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. She exhibited in California as well as local New Paltz shows and won awards in juried shows. She was a charter member of the The National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Bickmore was born July 18, 1918 and was the daughter of Lucy Veronica Dolan and Joseph Stecz. She is survived by two daughters, Katharine D. Wagner and her husband Lawrence of Englewood, Florida and Lucy Paradies and her husband Walter of Garner, NC and a son, Albert ""Duke"" Bickmore and his wife Judi of Viera, Florida and 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter Mrs. Hope F. Morris of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Jesse O. Bickmore, Jr. of Broad Marston, England. Visitation will be Sunday June 26 from 6 to 8 pm at the Holt Funeral Home in Haverstraw. A memorial mass will be held Monday June 27 at 10:00 a.m at St. Mary’s Church, Haverstraw, interment to follow at St. Peters Cemetery in West Haverstraw. Memorial contributions may be made to Family of New Paltz or the Elting Memorial Library in New Paltz.
