Mrs. Sloan passed away Friday, August 26, 2016 at Agape Hospice House in Lexington. Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Julia Boggs Sanders. Dot spent her younger years growing up and attending school in the Westminster/Seneca area, but lived most of her life in West Columbia. Dot's work career started at age 12, and continued until she was 76 years old. She worked for Pulliam Motor Company for 14 years, and worked for 25 years for Champion Paper Company, and retired in 1985. After her retirement from Champion Paper Company, she continued working 11 more years with the SC Department of Revenue in Columbia. She enjoyed working and interacting with people. Dot dearly loved her church and was a devoted member of Northside Baptist Church since 1955. She faithfully taught Sunday School for the past 55 years. She taught a Ladies' Sunday School class at Northside Baptist and a Bible Study class each Wednesday at Jenni Lynn Assisted Living Center until well into her 90's. After her health declined, she still enjoyed the fellowship of, and attended Bible Study Classes at Northside Baptist Church, up until the past year. She was faithful to serve her Lord and Savior throughout her entire life. Dot will be remembered for her listening ear, encouragement and love for so many who loved her deeply throughout her life. Dot dearly loved her family, and was fondly known as "GG", "Aunt Dot" and "Grammy Dot" by her grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Dot is survived by her son, James William Sloan, Sr. (Elizabeth Buff) of Edgefield; adopted son, Ken Brown (Susan) of Gainesville, GA; granddaughter, Buffie Gnegy (Steven) of Summerville; grandson, Jay Sloan (Leigh Kelly) of Edgefield; great-grandchildren, Will and Robin Gnegy and Trey and Drew Sloan. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Ray Sloan; brothers, Jack and Jimbo Sanders; sister, Robbie Welch; granddaughter, Robin Michele Sloan; grandson, James William Sloan Jr. The family would like to thank the staffs of Generations of Irmo, and Agape Hospice House of Lexington for their attentive care, and everyone who assisted in her care for many years which allowed her to remain in her home.
