Anthony A. Attardi, 85, of Port Charlotte, FL died Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Tidewell Hospice, he succumbed to prostate cancer after a prolonged battle. Born on August 1, 1928 in Rochester, NY; he attended Aquinas High School and graduated in 1950 from the University of Rochester. He was commissioned as a U.S. Navy Ensign at graduation and served three years during the Korean Conflict. After two years service on the heavy cruiser USS Albany CA-123 he was promoted to Lt. Junior Grade and assigned as engineering officer for the amphibious vessel LST - 1122. This service was primarily in the Pacific and Yellow Sea Theaters. After his military service, Anthony enrolled at the University of Buffalo - School of Engineering. In 1956 he graduated with his BS Degree in mechanical engineering. He and the former Connie R. Sciarratta were married. During his working career, Anthony specialized in machinery design and worked at the Carborundum Co in Niagara Falls, NY; Garlock Corp in Palmyra, NY and Xerox Corp in Webster, NY. After retiring from Xerox he and Connie moved to Port Charlotte, where he enjoyed fishing and boating. He was a member of the Gulf Cove POGC and the Fishing Club. He was of the Catholic faith. Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years: Connie; one son: Dr. David M. Attardi, DMD; one daughter: Eve (Richard) Spotts Brown, RD; three grand children: Isabela Attardi, Christopher Arcidiacono and Geri-Anne Spotts; sister: Delores (Phillip) Franco; two brothers-in-laws; four sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Englewood Community Funeral Home with Private Crematory, 3070 South McCall Road.
