Anthony "Tony" R. Damiano
May 29th, 1923 - April 9th, 2013
Anthony R. "Tony" Damiano, 89, of Brookside Avenue, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born May 29, 1923 in Little Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Anthony and Elizabeth Burrell Damiano. Tony moved to Gloversville in his youth and was a graduate of Gloversville High School and later attended Hudson Valley Community College. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII where he served as a medic with the US Marine Corps in the Battles of Okinawa, Guam and several other battles in the Pacific. He received two Purple Hearts. After the war, he served in the Occupation of Japan. Tony was a machinist for the General Electric Company for 20 years, retiring in 1985. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, a member of the Southside Veteran's Club and the Port Jackson Bocce League. Tony loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed all sports especially his Yankees, playing bocce at the Port Jackson Bocci Court and at his son Tommy's house. He loved to read. On April 20, 1952, he married the former Isabella Marcellino. Besides his dear wife he is survived by his loving family, two sons Paul A. Damiano and Thomas Damiano, both of Amsterdam; a daughter Lisa Christopher Kinowski of Amsterdam; a brother John Damiano of Jupiter, FL; a sister Lucille Mazzatenta of Drexel Hill, PA; seven grandchildren Nicole Josh Richards, Nicole Chris Menge, Cassandra, Michael and Lindsey Kinowski, Michelle and Angela Damiano; two great granddaughters Emma and Avery Menge; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a grandson Anthony Michael Damiano, four special brothers-in-law Frank, Tony and Tom Marcellino and Jerry Mazzatenta, Sr.; two special nephews Jerry and Anthony Mazzatenta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday April 13, 2013 at 9:15 am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, East Main Street, Amsterdam, with the Fr. Victor Polito as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Johnstown with military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY.
