Anthony L Torres
October 17th, 1953 - January 1st, 2020
Everyone has a favorite Uncle, and Anthony, known by many as Uncle, seemed to be everyone's favorite. Always wearing an infectious smile and offering a kind word, Anthony lived out his life to the fullest. Anthony L Torres, AKA "Uncle", was born in Pueblo, Colorado on 10-17-1953, and after 66 fun-filled years of showing up to any and every place there was food, beer (before he quit), or women he could flirt with, he passed away on 01-01-2020 in Albuquerque after a lengthy battle, which included a small bout with cancer, but mostly consisted of being nagged by his daughter. He was raised in Belen, NM where he lived most of his life. After moving to Albuquerque several years ago, he developed a connection with the Old Town neighborhood, the church, the plaza and the people. Active in his community, Anthony loved exploring, and spending days at Tiguex Park with family. Around his neighborhood of Old Town, he devoted time in his professional life as a Maintenance Supervisor at The Sawmill Lofts (2008-2015), where many people depended on him. He obliged with a helpful heart and an open ear. Socially, Anthony spent time as a volunteer at the NM Jazz Workshop, and always made time to introduce his family to the music and friends he found along the way. Uncle had a love for the simple life. You would often find Anthony a guest at the kitchen table of his family and friends. That was not only because of his humor and conversation, but he was the life of the party. He rallied his daily plans by scheduling activities around food and who was cooking the best meals in which house each day. He was the guy to call if you needed help with a repair, some weed-pulling in the vineyard, or basic landscaping… as long as he was done in time for lunch. (It seemed a bit too coincidental he always made sure to show up right before lunchtime, and then left with a promise to finish it mañana) We're fairly certain he coined the "Will Work for Food" phrase. Anthony was also the epitome of an awesome Grandpa with his grandchildren, he cherished them with all his heart. He taught them to say "Oh si" if something was less than believable. His favorite hangout with them was visiting Explora or the "Dinosaur Museum"; you would think that after the 20th time he would get bored of it, but it wasn't the museums that entertained him. He loved to be with them. He was the grandpa that would sit in the stands and flirt with the other team's moms and grandmas all while cheering on his grandkids at games and events. A jeans and t-shirt kind of guy, and a jokester at heart, he loved sparking conversations about his favorite Old Guys Rule tees - letting the message on the shirt make a valid statement. Always the ladies man, Anthony proudly donned his Dirty Old Man tee that lived up to his personality and fanatically wore his illustrious Miami Dolphins gear. If you tried to stifle his fun fashion, he would always respond with "¡Oh, sí!" followed by an endearing chuckle which we won't soon forget. He enjoyed Lobo games, Matanzas, family events, John Wayne movies, Mariachi music and 70's rock-n-roll. He was never in a bad mood, never complained, never stopped joking and smiling. He insisted that his services be a "FUN-eral" because he wanted it to be a party with music and food, not some sad, somber event full of old ladies crying in black veils. (If this is you, consider yourself warned.) After making the transition to be with his God, Anthony is on his way to reunite with his infant son, Anthony Torres, Jr., his parents, Manuel & Lucy Torres, and his sister, Mary Rose Gauna He is survived by...his daughter Sonia Torres & her S/O Brandon Blackmon, as well as his son Manuel Torres, and his wife Jaydee Torres. Grandchildren...Cadence & Raelynn Blackmon, Alexxa, Noah & Emilia Torres. Siblings... Raymond Torres, Manuel Torres Jr., Rick & Debbie Torres, Jose Angel Torres and numerous nieces & nephews, and great-nieces and nephews as well. FUN-eral will be held Friday, January 17th at 9:30am, San Felipe de Neri Church in Albuquerque, Fiesta to follow at 11:30am Sawmill Lofts in Albuquerque. Arrangements entrusted to: Riverside Funeral Home of Albuquerque 225 San Mateo Blvd NE (505) 764-9663
