Antoinette Peranio
February 9th, 1923 - September 10th, 2013
Antoinette Peranio February 9, 1923 – September 10 2013 Ann was born at home in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Maria (Fanelli) and Domenico Servedio on Feb. 9, 1923. Born to a large family (8 siblings – 5 brothers, 3 sisters - and many cousins), she never lacked for company when skating behind the trolley cars or sneaking into the ‘movies’ with her youngest sister in her arms. Dancing and roller skating were among her favorite things while growing up. She loved to talk about how she and her brothers would hang on to the back of a trolley, buss, truck, or whatever they could grab on to and just skate like the wind. Yes, she was a wild one, she was. And then there was the time when she and her older sister snuck out to go skating and her sister broke her arm. Well, here comes the lawsuit against the city for her sister falling on the subway steps and getting hurt. Lots more stories there. Although her greatest ambition was to be a clothing designer, it was never meant to be. She had many nieces and nephews who grew up with Aunt Ann and we’re sure they have stories they heard from their parents, plus some of their own. Ann married her first husband, Michael Crisafulli, in 1943 and had two children- Angela and Maria. She liked to tell the story about Maria, who survived her premature birth only two weeks due to a rare lung condition. Persuaded to do an autopsy, doctors were able to find out more about the condition, and a few months later were able to save the life of another infant born with the same condition. We like to think Maria’s purpose in life was to save others. Angela went on to have one daughter, Denise, and three grandsons - Dylan, Ryan and Shonn. They became Ann’s focus during her later years of life. In her early years, Ann worked alongside her husband in his tailoring store as a seamstress, and also was a member of the NYPD as a school crossing guard, (something she was very proud of). Married to the love of her life, Leo Peranio, in 1963, (to whom she was married for 45 years, until his passing in 2008), Ann gained a new family of four children, Allan, Cliff, Shelley and Scott. They all became an integral part of her life. After moving to Florida in 1971, Angela and her family followed suit that same year, and the Peranio children moved there as well, as they got older. There were constant family dinners, many fun family holidays, and many friends who loved her very much. Working along side her husband in business, she became an excellent bookkeeper and office manager, as well as a number one saleswoman. One of the things she enjoyed was working at flea markets and meeting new people. Her favorite pastime was bowling and later on bocce (an Italian version of bowling, sort of), although she always loved to dance and would go dancing with her spouse every chance she had – always with a group of good friends. She learned to play the keyboards when Leo started playing the mandolin - both taught by his musician/bandleader uncle Joe Nastazio. There was rarely a family gathering when the mandolin, keyboard, and guitars didn’t come out (Allan and Scott played guitar) and the soulful sound of her daughter-in-law Louise (dec’d) singing. She liked to get involved with her community and was always willing to help plan events. Ann was a loving soul who touched everyone she met. She and Leo moved to Longmont CO in Dec. 2007, living near her daughter and grandchildren the rest of her years. After her husband’s passing, she became involved in the community teaching crocheting, which became her favorite pastime. She joined the crocheting groups at the senior centers in both Austin (2011) and Longmont, where the groups created items to be donated to local shelters, hospitals and nursing homes. She made friends in both groups and those days were the highlight of her week. Ann is survived by her daughter Angela Crisafulli, Granddaughter Denise Neal and her three sons Dylan, Ryan and Shonn; stepchildren Allen Peranio (Veronica) and children Kim, CarolAnn and Christine; Cliff Peranio (Susan) and daughter Tiffanie; Shelley Peran (MaryAnn); and Scott Peranio (Charlene) and son Charlie. She is also survived by her sisters Mary DeRico, Frances Wilt, and brother Joseph Servedio, sisters-in-law Margaret Servedio and Mary DeLuca, and numerous nieces and nephews. We would love to hear family stories, so please feel free to use the ‘Stories’ page, sign the guest book and share with us (photos too). Service Information A service summary is not available
