Antonio "Tony" Manuel Moreno
September 6th, 1925 - May 3rd, 2012
Antonio "Tony" Manuel Moreno, 86, of Plymouth, CA, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2012 at his home in Plymouth. Tony was born in Sutter Creek on September 6, 1925, the second son of the late Rosa (Gonzales) and Juan Francisco Moreno. He attended Sutter Creek Union High School, graduating in 1943. He then joined the U.S. Marine Corp, served with the Fifth Division during WWII and fought in the "Battle of Iwo Jima". Fifty years later he, his wife Marla and two sons traveled to Iwo Jima for the anniversary reunion. He also was honored to attend the commissioning of the USS Iwo Jima in June 2001, where they renewed their wedding vows in celebration of their 50 years of marriage. In his early years, Tony was very athletic and hard working; he was a recreational boxer in the US Marine Corp, played fast pitch softball for Chevron Oil, as well as other teams in the late 1950's. Tony worked locally in the timber and mining industries until he started a 22-year career as a machinist in the ship repair business in San Francisco, where he excelled. In 1973 he moved back to Plymouth, where he and Marla, opened Moreno's General Store in Plymouth, which operated until 1991. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marla; daughters, Stephanie Moreno; Rosemarie, and her husband, Robert Moody, of Plymouth; sons, Frank, and his wife, Cindy Moreno, of Plymouth; Myron, and his wife Karen Moreno, of San Jose; Dominic, and his wife, Lori Moreno of Volcano; Antonio John Moreno, of Plymouth; sister, Ella Emerson of Plymouth, grandchildren, Briana, Melissa, Jennifer (Matt), Kristin (Brent), Julie, Robyn, Christina (Edgar), Jeff, Melanie, Allyson, Victoria, Timothy, Jonathan, Daniel, Patrick, Cody, Kyle, Christopher; great grandfather of Josephine Antoinette, Saveah Joy, Isabella, Jerri Ann. He was preceded in death by his children, Antonio Manuel Moreno, Jr., Teresa Anne Moreno, Joseph Emery Moreno; siblings, John Frank Moreno and Rosie Nicholaus. Friends are invited to attend a celebration of life at the Amador County Fair grounds on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.danerimortuary.com and signing the guest book.
