Archie Noel Fernandez
November 15th, 1950 - September 28th, 2018
FERNANDEZ, Archie Noel 67, of Silver Spring, MD, formerly of Pune, India, passed away on September 29, 2018 after a four-year struggle with hodgkins lymphoma. Archie was the beloved son of late Alexandra Fernandez and Antonio N Fernandez, loving brother of Alzira Gomes, brother-in-law of Edward Gomes, and nephew of Irene de Lima. He will be sorely missed by his cousins of the de Lima family, especially, Osborn de Lima, with whom he shared a special bond, and his friends. He is fondly remembered by his numerous students of Vidya Bhavan High School in Pune, India, where he taught math to 8th, 9th and 10th graders for many years. He had earned various nicknames such as 'Fundu' & 'Fundya' from his students and was proud of each one of those names. He was a larger than life figure for all of his students, and each one of them fondly remembers their 'Fernandes Sir' and his immeasurable impact both in and out of the classroom. He was an exceptional gardener and maintained a pristine yard full of amazing blooms all year round. He loved taking cruises and traveling with family in his later years. Goa was his favorite destination for food reminiscent of his childhood and an escape from the harsh winters of the west. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 4th 2018. Viewing prior to Funeral Mass at St. Camillus Church, 1600 St Camillus Dr, Silver Spring, MD at 10:30 am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery 13801 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD.
