Archie Layton Fox
March 5th, 1927 - January 8th, 2014
Archie Layton Fox of Sutter Creek, CA, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson at the age of 86. He was born in Amherst, WI on March 5, 1927 to Timothy and Kathryn (Hahn) Fox. Archie was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during WWII as a corporal in the Military Police. He also served in the USO Special Services, setting up for shows all over Europe. Archie married Georgia on July 14, 1962 in Palos Verdes, CA. The newlyweds discovered Amador County while on their honeymoon and eventually pulled up stakes and moved to the foothills in 1979. Archie owned Fox Woodcraft Service for over 60 years, and was a Custom Cabinet Maker and a very accomplished craftsman in his trade. Archie achieved many wood working projects in Wisconsin, Glendale, and Amador County. He was a member of the Amador County Historical Society, volunteered at the Interfaith Food Bank for 12 years, a member of SIRS, and offered his talents to a local barber shop quartet for several years. While living in Glendale he was a member and deacon of United Community Church adding his voice to their choir. Archie was a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Jackson for 32 years. Archie and Georgia enjoyed traveling the world together. They traveled to Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, and a few cross country trips. He was currently restoring his mom and dad's wedding car, a 1925 Model T, and was very proud of his handiwork; it is almost complete. Archie is survived by his devoted and caring wife of 51 years, Georgia Fox of Sutter Creek; daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle Fox Stevens and Richard of Sutter Creek, CA, Jenny Fox Fritz and Scott of Sutter Creek; sister, Audrey Grambsch and Clyde of Wisconsin; brothers and wives, Everett Fox and Joyce of Wisconsin, Robert Fox and Donna of La Crescenta, CA; grandsons, Dylan Fritz and Owen Fritz of Sutter Creek, CA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, Debbie Stenger, Andrew, Shannon, and Joe, Steve and David Fox, Lois and Don Ristow, Larry, Gary, David and Bobbie Fox of Glendale. He was preceded in death by his parents, Timothy and Kathryn Fox; niece, Gael Fox; and his brother, Russell Fox. Friends are invited to attend a celebration of life at Grace Fellowship Church 8040 South Highway 49 in Jackson, CA at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2014.
