Arlene Marie Tellez, 82, passed away September 1, 2018 in Lacey, Washington. She was born August 29, 1936, to Robert and Genevieve Thompson in Aitkin, Minnesota. She also resided in Minneapolis, Minnesota (’54-“57), Johnson AFB Japan (‘58-‘61), Luke AFB Glendale, Arizona (‘61-‘63), Hill AFB Roy, Utah (‘63-‘69), McChord AFB Lakewood, Washington (‘69-‘01), and Lacey (‘02-‘18). Arlene attended grades K-12 in Aiken, graduating high school in 1954. She also graduated from secretarial school in 1954. Professionally, she worked for Prudential Insurance in Minneapolis, Minnesota (‘54-‘55); Industrial Molasses Inc. in Minnesota (’55-’57), Lakewood Chamber of Commerce Secretary (’83-’89), Century 21 Real Estate broker (’89-’91), and Parkwood Real Estate broker (’91-’95). Arlene married Herman Tellez on December 28, 1957 in Aitkin, Minnesota. From 1957 to 1983, she was a “domestic engineer” during which time her life revolved around her children and their activities. She loved being a mother and wife. She also enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, sewing and quilting, reading, gardening (veggies, Bonsai, and roses), camping, tennis, roller skating (ice and roller), board and card games, bird watching, rock collecting, crossword and Sudoku puzzles. She was a member of the Olympia Rose Society (’05-’13) and Lacey Bonsai Club (’06-’18), and regularly attended services at Grace Communion International/Tacoma. Arlene is survived by her husband, Herman Tellez; sons, Joel Herman Tellez and wife Melissa (Smyrna, Tennessee) and Matthew Robert Tellez (Bellingham, Washington); daughters, Raema Lynn Hickey (Lakewood, Washington), Ruth Elilzabeth Krause and husband Ron (Lyle, Washington) and Sara Catherine Pacheco and husband Jared (Pahoa, Hawaii); grandchildren, Briana M. Hickey, Jeremy R. Tellez, Jacob R. Tellez, Julianna V. Tellez and Genevieve L. Krause; brother, Jerome (Joan) Thompson (Duluth, Minnesota); and sister, Muriel (Vern) Moore (Foley, Alabama). Services are pending. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the National Stroke Association.
