Arline Bruehl
December 7th, 1927 - February 13th, 2017
My Life Story Arline Lois Gauthan Bruehl passed away peacefully on February 13, 2017 at her home in Meridian. She was born December 7, 1927 to Ole O. and Martha Gauthan at the family farm in Nunda, South Dakota, joining her two sisters, Elaine and Mildred. Arline attended Rutland High School, Rutland SD and graduated in 1945. She attended South Dakota State College taking general science classes, then taking time off to work for the South Dakota Extension Service as a secretary. She returned to classes at South Dakota State University majoring in Home Economics. It was during this time, she met the love of her life, George W. “Bill” Bruehl. After a four-month courtship, they married on February 4, 1949. In April of 1950, they welcomed their daughter, Janet, into their family. In 1952, the Bruehls moved to Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico where Bill worked for the USDA in the sugar division. Their son, Walter was born there in 1954. A few months later, Bill and Arline moved their family to Pullman, Washington, where Bill accepted an invitation to join the Plant Pathology Department at Washington State University, teaching and researching Cereal Crops. They lived in Pullman until 2012, when they moved to Meridian to be closer to family. Arline was a housewife and stay-at-home mom until 1968. She worked for the Pullman School District as a secretary for a year, and then worked for Trinity Lutheran Church part-time for four years as their secretary. Later, she worked as an office assistant and secretary for almost 15 years at Washington State University in various departments until she retired in 1990. In retirement, Arline and Bill enjoyed some foreign travel, took a few cruises and visited 48 states. Arline enjoyed sewing, skiing, bowling, golf, swim aerobics and playing Bridge. She was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on many committees over the years. She was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi alumnus group. Arline is survived by her children, Janet (Richard) Halford of Kent, WA.; Walter (Cheryl) Bruehl of Boise; four grandchildren, Risa (John) Roberts, Okinawa, Japan; Dean Halford, NYC, New York; Adam (Hope) Bruehl, Apex, NC; and Christopher Bruehl, Boston, MA. Two great-grandchildren; L.J. “John” and Isla Roberts. Our family is expecting a baby great-granddaughter Bruehl in May, 2017. Arline is also survived by her sister, Elaine of Chicago, IL and many nieces (7) and nephews (13). Mom and dad were inseparable in life, and were fiercely loyal to each other and their children. They were a role model of what love, marriage and family is all about. We believe, and it was evident after dad’s passing in December, mom was lost without him. We wish them togetherness again. We would like to express our deep and sincere gratitude to the staff at Meadowlake Village, The Meadows Assisted living and Journey’s Hospice for the kind, loving and gentle care of our mom during her final weeks. Arline was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 67 years, Bill, and her sister, Mildred of Spearfish, SD. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Trinity Lutheran Endowment Fund in Pullman, Washington, or to a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Meadow Lake Village, 4037 E. Clocktower Dr., Meridian. She will be placed with her husband at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. Remembrances may be left for the family at www.AccentFuneral.com. Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian.

We Entrusted Arline Bruehl's Care To
Accent Funeral Home
A local landmark in Meridian, Accent Funeral Home has been serving the community since 1986. The business was first established with a vision to offer services in a comfortable, homelike atmosphere. This vision is reflected in our building, a Tudor-style home built in 1938 for a local postman. When remodeling the house to accommodate the funeral home, much care was taken to preserve the original architectural integrity of the building. The Accent Funeral Home holds a special relationship with the Meridian community and is sensitive to the area’s changing needs, providing service and friendship to comfort those we serve....
