Arnold Shavlan

Arnold E. Shavlan 80 of Pass-a-Grille, St. Pete Beach and CEO of Bond Jewelers, passed away November 3, 2008 at his home. Born February 22nd, 1928 in Rochester NY, he was the youngest son of the late Hiram and Dorothy Shavlan. Arnold attended Ohio State University and then began a career in the jewelry industry managing stores for the Jewel Box chain in Virginia. He moved to St. Petersburg in 1957 and along with his late brother Leonard purchased Bond Jewelers. He grew the business from a small one store operation to a seven store regional jewelry chain. He served as company president until he retired in 1995. He was also one of the founding members and a two term president of the Continental Buying Group, the most powerful buying group in the jewelry industry representing 100 independent retail jewelers. Arnold also served in the armed forces during World War II. He was a member of Temple Beth-El and was a supporter of the Florida Orchestra. Survivors include his beloved wife Patricia and loving sons Marvin and Michael. Funeral services will be 2:30PM Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Temple Beth-El, 400 Pasadena Avenue South. Burial will follow in Royal Palm Cemetery South. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. David C. Gross Funeral Home is serving the family.
