Arthur "Jo" Joseph Merrick
August 1st, 1952 - August 12th, 2023
Arthur Joseph “Joe” Merrick 71, passed away unexpectedly on August 12, 2023 in Boise, Idaho. He was born August 1, 1952 in Nyssa Oregon to C.A. “Pete” Merrick and Verna Woodland. Joe married his best friend and sweetheart in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 21, 1975. Joe and Verla have lived in Owyhee County since their marriage. They are the parents of Ryan, Dennis, Angela, Samuel, Kurt, and Kimberly. Joe enjoyed serving his community and those around him. He was currently an Owyhee County Commissioner, being first elected in 2010. He also served on the Owyhee County Fairboard for a number of years and was chairman of the board for 3 years. He was a 4-H leader for 20 years. Joe was a member of the Bruneau/Grand View school board for a period of time. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had many different callings including serving a two-year mission in Lima, Peru. He enjoyed his most recent calling in the Boise Idaho Temple. Joe enjoyed farming and working alongside his brothers and his father as he grew up. He also truly enjoyed working with his children on the farm teaching them the importance of, and a love of work. He enjoyed woodworking and his grandchildren could always look forward to Christmas presents built in the woodshop. Joe was an excellent mechanic and had a love of working with his hands which he passed on to his children. Joe is survived by Wife Verla of Bruneau, Idaho, Ryan (son) and Wife Laura Merrick of Kimberly, Idaho, Dennis (Son) and wife Rita Merrick of Nampa, Idaho, Angela (daughter) and husband Jay Thomas of Noble, Oklahoma, Samuel (son) and wife Michelle of Laie, Hawaii, Kurt (son) and wife Sara of Grand View, Idaho Kimberly (daughter) and husband Brian Lindquist of Oakley, Idaho, and 21 grandchildren, Mother, Verna Merrick, Brothers Allen Merrick and Jared Merrick. Joe was preceded in death by his father, C.A. “Pete” Merrick, Brothers, Dean and Aaron and sister, Sidney. A viewing will be held at Rost Funeral Home in Mountain Home, ID on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm and at the Grand View Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Building from 9:00am-9:45am. Services will be held Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 10:00am at the Grand View Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Building: 37873 Highway 78, Grand View, ID 83624. Funeral arrangements are being provided by Rost Funeral Home, Mountain Home, ID.
